Naples, post-World War II. Angela, a wealthy woman, receives a phone call in her apartment from the man with whom she has been having an affair for five years. The reason for the call is not just a casual chat: the man wants to tell her that he intends to leave her for another woman. During this final phone call, Angela expresses all her feelings: the deep love and passion she harbors for him, her longing for the beautiful moments they shared, her anger at what is happening, the pain of being abandoned, the sense of worthlessness that drove her to attempt suicide, and her resignation to the end of a relationship she already felt had reached its final stop.
